DESCRIPTION:
French, lyre form mantel clock, the case of mahogany, and the pendulum suspended above the movement, behind the lyre "strings", c1840
CONDITION:
the mahogany case was refinished some time ago, and could stand some additional polish. Hour hand is original; minute hand is old, but with a shaped stem rather than straight. Engine turned dial retains original silvering. Movement is signed simply "F-C" above bell standard, and with the number 675. Original inverted crutch, pendulum, and mounting hardware are all intact. Ticks and strikes on original bell. Top mount depicts a naked lad on a winged horse, with a musical lyre in his hands. Ht 22.5"
